Frequently Asked Questions

Fischer Ulman Construction answers some of your questions.
Can I just get a quote over the phone?
Fischer-Ulman prefers that its estimator meets with the property owner at the job site to measure the job. This allows the owner/foreman time to see and discuss with the owner important issues such as:
  • Property line boundaries with neighbors
  • Terrain
  • Drainage
  • Concrete pitch  (checked with a level or transit, if needed)
  • Site access issues (can we complete the project using large machinery or by jackhammer and wheelbarrow)
  • Abutting or nearby buildings that may be affected during and after construction
  • Possible permits or inspections needed to complete the job
  • Answer any other questions you may have
When a job is sized up in this way, it allows Fischer Ulman estimators to be more accurate with your quote so we can get your job done safely and on time.
Has your company been around for a while?
Leroy Fischer and William Ulman, the owners, have owned and operated Fischer-Ulman since 1984. Before this, both were employed at concrete and masonry companies. Their combined experience totals over 90 years. Many of their employees have been with them since their company began. The majority of their employees have been with them for 12 years or more, which is unheard of in the construction industry. They are experienced and knowledgeable.
Can I get a discount if a group of neighbors all go together and have Fischer-Ulman do their work?

Yes. If neighbors collaborate on projects that are sizeable, accessible and  that can be done basically at the same time, this allows Fischer Ulman crews to be more efficient, which allows us to save you money.
Four inches or five inches of concrete? What’s the difference?
Strength. Four-inch concrete is adequate to hold up under normal foot traffic and stands up to generally 1500 pounds or less. Sidewalks, service walks, hot tub pads and patios are usually poured four inches thick.
Five-inch thick or thicker holds up better and longer when dealing with heavier loads or vehicle traffic. Driveways, sidewalks running through driveways, garage slabs and additions for the RV or boat are usually poured five
inches or more.
